Can I make a confession? I’m a serial to-do list writer. I’ve been doing it for years and I’m addicted. I absolutely love the feeling of crossing something off my list. I’ll even add any extra items I complete to that list, just to cross them off—even if they weren’t on my list originally. Maybe what I’m really addicted to is productivity. I suppose I get a bit of a high when I have a productive day—anyone else?
The only problem is that I consistently lose every to-do list I make. I then find it weeks later, crumbled up in the bottom of my tote bag. Only to realize that I forget a few of the items on that list—whomp whomp.
But, a few months ago, I found a new way to keep track of my to-do lists. It’s digital, syncs from my computer to my phone and makes it easy to keep track of all my lists, whether they’re for today, this week or this month! It’s called Trello, and it’s been a game-changer for me. Out of all the productivity apps out there, this one has been by far my favorite! It’s a free app that let’s you create lists and collaborate with friends or team members when necessary. While the base version of it is free, you can upgrade for additional features, though I haven’t yet.
One of my favorite Trello feature are the boards. Instead of just having a single to-do list, you can create separate boards for specific projects or timelines. For example, I have a weekly board, a ‘big picture’ board where I brainstorm ideas and content for my blog, a board for my “Be Well” newsletter, and lastly, I recently added a board that I’m calling ‘Maternity Leave’. That one includes content I’m hoping to finish up before our baby comes, as well as random things I still need to do, like take an infant CPR class and buy a car.
The one I use the most is my weekly board as it keeps me on schedule each week and also keeps me from overbooking my days. I break each day down into tasks that have to happen everyday—like pinning my content to Tailwind, then general work stuff and then personal things. Whenever I’m done with a task, I can simply ‘Archive’ the card and it’s ‘scratched’ off my list!
Each board has it’s own unique purpose, but I absolutely LOVE that they’re all in one place. When I update my desktop app, my phone automatically updates as well!
If you work on a team, Trello can be especially helpful as it allows you to label tasks by color (aka, by person) and easily move them around to different lists so that everyone is on the same page at once!
Maybe I sound like a crazy list lady, and I suppose I am a bit, but these lists keep me sane! They keep my blog functioning in a timely manner, reminds me of calls that I need to make, posts that need to get finished, let’s me set goals for the whole year and even reminds me of things I need to order on Amazon (somehow I always forget toilet paper!).
