6 SEO Mistakes You Might Be Making
Not Diversifying your Keywords
One of the biggest mistakes I see is that people try to rank for only 1-3 keywords. Ranking for 1-3 is great, but you know what’s better? Ranking for hundreds of keywords! The more keywords that you rank for, the more traffic you’ll get over time. Make sure to diversify your keywords so you can rank for more.
You probably will not rank on page 1 for every keyword you use, but the more you’re utilizing them, the better chances you have of coming up in searches!
Using Keywords No One is Searching For
I polled several entrepreneurs about how they were finding keywords for their website and you know what most said? They were just guessing! That blew my mind, and is not the most effective way to do your SEO because guessing is not a good strategy.
Make sure to do your keyword research before so that you know the keywords you’re using are actively being searched. This is so important and is honestly the backbone of SEO!
Keyword Stuffing
The practice of keyword stuffing is when you dump a list of keywords into your website, hoping that you’ll rank for one. Google isn’t a fan! When you use keywords, they should be spread out within your page copy naturally, not dumped at the bottom in a list separated by commas.
Your copy should read normally for humans, not be made for search engine robots only!
Creating Content & Never Updating It
Content is one of the fastest ways to grow your traffic, but creating content and then completely ignoring it is a waste of your time. Google loves seeing that content is getting upgraded—it tells the search engine that this information is still relevant. Plus, it takes the pressure off of you to constantly be cranking out new content.
Pages with Little Content
If you’ve got a bunch of pages with very little copy, or blog posts that barely hit the 300 word count threshold, chances are, you’re not going to rank. Google loves content, especially long-form content, so if your pages or posts are short, beef them up, add more keywords and make them even more helpful and beneficial to anyone coming to read them.
Not Installing Google Analytics
Lastly, if you don’t have a way to track your website traffic, how will you know what’s working, and what isn’t working? Make sure to install Google Analytics, a free service from Google that gives you insanely valuable insights into your reader’s behavior, where they’re finding you and which content is performing the best!
