What to Say in Your Marketing Emails When You’re Out of Ideas

Building an engaged email list is one of the best ways to connect with your audience, boost sales, and create a loyal customer base. But if you’re stuck wondering what to send your subscribers, you’re not alone! I often find myself in major ruts, and while the easy choice is not sending anything, it’s to your business’ benefit to build connection and community. Here are some great email marketing ideas to keep your emails fresh, valuable, and engaging.

10 Email Marketing Ideas to Send your List When You Don’t Have Any Ideas

1. Welcome Sequence

Your subscribers’ journey starts here! This is one of my favorite email marketing ideas because you set it up once and it works for you over and over again.

Create a warm, informative welcome sequence introducing your brand, your story, and what they can expect from your emails. Offer a discount or freebie to thank them for joining. This is easy to set up in Flodesk (get 50% off by using that link!). You can deliver that special thing and then create a series of emails that introduce who you are and what you do to build trust instantly. You build this once and anytime someone joins your list, they automatically get these emails!

2. Behind-the-Scenes Content

People love to see the process behind your products or services. Share sneak peeks of your work, your workspace, or how you bring your creations to life. This builds connection and trust and makes you seem real and relatable. This is great to send in weeks where you don’t have any major announcements or sales or new offers. This just reminds people you’re here and gives them an idea of what you’re working on.

3. Exclusive Discounts & Offers

Reward your subscribers with special deals that aren’t available anywhere else. This keeps people subscribed and engaged while encouraging sales. In a pinch, I love using email as a tool to drive sales when things are slow. Be wary of doing this too often as you don’t want people to just assume it’s coming and only wait for sales, but it can be a great way to get a big stream of sales in a hurry.

4. Product Highlights & New Arrivals

Launching a new product? Feature it in an email with high-quality photos, details, and why it’s a must-have. You can also highlight a best-seller or a seasonal favorite. You can do this for products that have launched or even offer a pre-order!

5. Educational Content & Tips

Position yourself as an expert by sharing helpful tips, tutorials, or insights related to your industry. If you sell handmade goods, offer care instructions or styling ideas. If you provide services, give actionable advice to help people on their own journey!

6. Customer Stories & Testimonials

Social proof is powerful! Share customer success stories, testimonials, or user-generated content to show how your products or services make a difference. Having others approve your services or products makes buying or signing a contract much easier for new clients!

7. Engaging Questions & Polls

Encourage interaction by asking your audience for feedback or running a fun poll. This not only boosts engagement but also gives you valuable insights into what your audience wants. This can also give you great insight if you’re looking to create a new offer or product. You can ask your audience what they’re more interested in and what would be the most helpful. I find it’s often the opposite of what I’d think!

8. Personal Updates & Brand Storytelling

Your audience wants to connect with YOU. Share personal updates, milestones, or lessons learned in your business journey to make your brand feel more relatable. This is such an amazing way to build trust and real relationships with your audience.

9. Seasonal & Holiday-Themed Emails

Tap into the excitement of the season with themed emails. Offer holiday gift guides, special promotions, or seasonal styling tips. Obviously, we all get a LOT of emails around this time, so if you’re going to create an offer, you’ll want to make it very enticing to standout in the sea of marketing emails people get each day!

10. Re-Engagement Emails

For subscribers who haven’t opened your emails in a while, send a friendly reminder with an exclusive offer or ask if they still want to stay on your list. Keeping people on your list who aren’t opening isn’t great for your open rate. This gives them a final chance to stick around before removing them.

Final Tip: Keep your emails consistent but not overwhelming. Aim for a frequency that keeps your brand top-of-mind without bombarding your subscribers. I’d recommend once a week or at the very least at least once a month so you stay top of mind for your readers!

Now, it’s your turn! Which of these email ideas will you try next?
