Over the summer, we launched this simple, yet STUNNING website for Denver designer and artist, Kristin Drake of Drake Interiors.
Kristin Drake runs a residential interior design studio in Denver, including new builds, full-scale renovations, the works. Alongside that practice, she’s a working artist with a body of ink, acrylic, and mixed-media paintings that explore tension, release, and automatism. The site needed to hold both of those identities without either one crowding the other out.
Simple Elegance
At Kristin’s request, the homepage stays deliberately spare. We have a scroll of full-bleed project photography, her simple logo, and minimal navigation. There’s no long-form copy competing for attention, no stacked sections explaining the brand.
The photography (with credit to photographer Dru Smith) is left to do the talking, which fits a designer whose actual product is spatial and visual, not written. It’s a bet that in interior design, the strongest sales pitch is simply showing the work at full size, and the layout gets out of its own way to let that happen.
Portfolio
Rather than a conventional grid with project names and locations, projects are labeled simply I through VI — including a couple marked “coming soon.” That numbering gives the page a quiet, almost editorial confidence: each project reads like an entry in an ongoing body of work rather than a one-off portfolio piece, which mirrors how Kristin talks about her design practice as a continuous body of work rather than disconnected jobs.
Art Studio
Kristin’s a girl like me with many different interests and passions! Instead of having to build out a separate website or business, we bundled her art studio, which leads into her design studio, in the same site.
I created a gallery of individual pieces that you can read and inquire about. As a multi-passionate business owner myself, I know how important it can be to have all things in one place instead of running around trying to keep two separate websites afloat.
The Result
A site built around subtraction rather than addition. Yes, it’s simple, but it allows Kristin’s work to truly stand out.
